May Question of the Month

In a previous position, I worked for a manger that was terrible. He was always quick to pass blame and not take any responsibility for his department. People that worked for him were always calling in sick because they did not want to work for him. It was a holiday in the office when he was away for business. I learned a lot about how to be a supporting manager by doing the opposite of what was being portrayed in the department. When I became a manager, I wanted to make sure that I had a policy where I woudl take the blames for the departments shortcomings, but pass on praise to the people that deserved the credit. I wanted to make sure that those in my charge were supported and were part of the team.

It was a tough few years working for someone that had lost the respect of the department and those around them. It helped be to become a stronger individual and I think a better leader. If noting else the stress of that time helped me and I hope that gets reflected to my team.
