Can I make the default values in a field specific to the selection of a previous field?

I created a form with 2 top projects X and Y and want to see different default values when selected project X than project Y , whilst keeping the same fields.

Thanks,

You would need to create two separate forms. Default values are not dynamic.

That is a great idea though. Feel free to browse the Product Ideas tab (at the top of the page) to see if someone else has already submitted the idea. If they have then you can add your vote to it. If they have not, you can submit it as a new idea which will give others the ability to add their votes.

Also... Don't forget to post a link to the idea here in this thread as well so others looking for the same thing can easily navigate to it and add their vote.

    Hi@Lahcene

I've merged your Idea onto the one that already exists:Dynamic dropdowns - Waterfall request

    Cheers,

@Genevieve P.I'm not sure they are the same. The one idea is for dynamic dropdowns whereas this post is looking for dynamic default values within the form. Or did I misunderstand?

    Ah yes you're right.

@Lahcenecan you clarify if you're only concerned about thedefaultvalue that shows in a form, or do you want the actual options to change in the dropdown list as well as the default?

@Paul NewcomeI believe it would still be the same functionality that's needed for the default logic to update - if dropdowns could waterfall, then we could change the default based on initial selections. I could be wrong here but the context provided for the Product team on that other Idea post will be good for them to see!

When I think of "Default Value" in a form, I think of a value that is pre-populated in the field, but not necessarily dropdowns. It could be a default date, contact, or text string/number too.

I'm thinking along the lines of form field logic that says...

If [Dropdown] is "A" then set default value in [Date Field] as 01 June 2023.

If [Dropdown] is "B" then set default value in [Date Field] as 02 June 2023.

I do think that some of the logic is similar, but I think it is two separate outcomes?

Hi Candace,

The answer is YES. You can use "Send as Attachment" feature in the File menu of your sheet to setup the schedule for your need. You should be a licensed user to use this feature as well (I remembered that).

Hope this works for you.

This cannot be set up through an Approval Automation. At his point you have a few options (each of which has its pros and cons).

You can just include a blurb that says that they are acknowledging by submitting within the Approval automation.

You can set up an update request automation as a reminder that they need to enter their initials if they submit but didn't the first time.

The last option I can think of that would truly make it required is a bit complex but possible. The first step is to create an "approval sheet". This sheet will have the same fields in it that you need to send in the approval request and a form created to match.

You would then take the base form URL and drop it into a formula on the original sheet that allows you to basically generate a custom form on each row that will have the row data prefilled when someone clicks on the URL in that row. Since you can make form fields required, this will give you the ability to require their acknowledgement prior to them submitting their approval.

Send this custom form URL through an alert and instruct the users to click the link to open the approval form.

The form entry would populate the "approval sheet", but you can use formulas with cross sheet references to pull the appropriate data back over to your original sheet.

If that last option sounds like something you would be interested in, fell free to let me know, and I will try to pull together a few links to help you get started building the formula.

https://community.smartsheet.com/api/v2/discussions?page=2&categoryID=321&includeChildCategories=1&type%5B0%5D=Question&excludeHiddenCategories=1&sort=-hot&limit=3&expand%5B0%5D=all&expand%5B1%5D=-body&expand%5B2%5D=insertUser&expand%5B3%5D=lastUser&status=accepted
">
