Just a small note that your instructions says to put 1 in row 1 for all levels, but it's better to put in 0 for the first row for all levels except level 1, as you did in the screenshot.

Thanks for this. One small point, your RowID seems to break when a row is added because it references a previous row. I found a solution here for a RowID that is robust to adding rows (see answer by Rob):https://community.smartsheet.com/discussion/formula-determine-row-number

Huge +1 for WBS and WBS Numbering

This request for a basic project management feature has been outstanding for over 3 years and there still isn't any movement on it? How is this possible?

Am I reading this correctly...? Smartsheet with Gantt and other essential scheduling functions does not have an automated WBS function?

WBS is scheduling 101 stuff and is essential to managing/collecting costs, and resources. So I guess Total Slack or Total Float is really out there...?

Any update as to when (or if) WBS and other essential schedule functionality will be included?

Just a thought to Smartsheet as business growth opportunity... bring the critical scheduling functions to Smartsheet and go head-to-head to MS Project (which is way over the top, and expensive)

Outline numbering is such a common feature for WBS and other related documents. It would be great if it could either be a special column or a display option on the primary column (i.e., a outline numbering prefix option).

Such an obvious/basic/necessary feature for the types of users Smartsheet is trying to attract.

Thanks and I noticed that as well. I've revised my formula to make it stop doing that. Here's what I'm using now:

Instead of plugging numbers into the top row, start with formulas below and That will stop it from breaking when you add rows.

1. Create columns for "Row", "Lvl", and "WBS"

2. Put the following formulas in the top row:

Row (this is just the row number): =COUNT(Lvl$1,Lvl1)

Lvl (this is the WBS level): = COUNT(ANCESTORS())+1

WBS(这就是创建WBSν的公式mbering): =IF(Lvl1=1,COUNTIF(Lvl$1:Lvl1,1),""+PARENT()+"."+COUNTIFS(Lvl$1:Lvl1, Lvl1,Row$1:Row1,>(PARENT(Row1)))))

3. Optionally, I also create a "Child" Column with the formula "=COUNT(CHILDREN())" - It's not used for the WBS numbers but it's useful if you want to use auto-formatting rules to highlight header columns.

Yes, the number should change automatically when you indent or outdent.

My boss just asked me if there is a feature to support the exact numbering scheme. Any reason why Smartsheet cannot invest in this?
