Column Formatting of Zip Codes, Phone Numbers

I'd like to be able to choose a preformatted Zip Code column type, as well as a preformatted phone number column type.

Currently, any Zip Codes that start with "0" (as in, the entire New England region) get messed up in that column - because "zero" isn't recognized as an initial number (so - it wouldn't have to be a zip code specific column type, just one that recognizes "0" can legitimately start a series of numbers!). The work around has been either to add a dash "-" after the affected zip codes, or do a look-up and add the Zip+4...

A (xxx) xxx-xxxx formatted column would be really great for North American telephone numbers!

Start the entry with an apostraphy, this will treat the del as text.

Interesting work around, thanks for that! however, we export/publish our member contact data onto our website, and that would likely stick out format-wise...

Using a Contact List column instead of a Text/Number column will format the numbers as text (without an apostrophe) and will not strip out zeros.

It is a work around, though not an ideal one - b/c Contact List formatting creates a drop down linked to all "My Smartsheet Contacts", as you know. I'm glad column formatting can be overwritten (e.g., same with Date column formatting can be overwritten with text), though...

Did you determine a good way to format the telephone number that is entered from a webform?

I wish! I've just worked around it in the meantime. I'm wondering if there is a format formula that could be copied/applied from Excel, though?

In the form use the "Help Text" see velow
