How do I auto-save a sheet without opening the sheet?

Hi @Pamb10

It is but you will need to use a hidden helper column, please see example below. As notifications are row based and would be triggered based on activity in the child row, you simply need to bring the parent row project name down to each row.

"image.png"

Formula for copying - =PARENT(Parent@row)

"image.png"

You can then reference the Helper column in your notifications against the child tasks as and when triggered

Hope that helps

Thanks

Hi @Chadd

You're not missing anything. Accessing the Form can be a bit of a mystery at first. Obviously emailing a link always works but I prefer to embed the form on a dashboard and share the dashboard with the users. Whether you embed the form itself or add the link as a shortcut widget, the user can favorite that dashboard for quick access. This method works especially well on a mobile device.

Or if there's a different dashboard that the users frequently access, you could add the link to that as well.

I hope that helps.

Thanks that helps. We do not yet have any dashboards setup but I guess I could create one specifically for this purpose. Or, I can send an email with a link but then they need to keep that email flagged and available to use the link I guess. This seems very odd and clunky to me. Why not just have Forms appear in their workspace/folder like a Sheet does... Sorry, after reading it a second time....

"NOTE: Column formulas cannot refer to cells or ranges with specific row numbers such as with absolute references, specific cell references, or partial-column ranges. Use @row, column references, and cross sheet references instead."

Hi @BdH

You're correct! The $1 is what's preventing it from being a column formula.

That said, if you drag-fill the formula down the column it will populate for any new rows added to the sheet (immediately below your current rows) or rows added in between 2 rows with the same formula. See: Use or Override Automatic Formatting and Formula Autofill

Another option to get that value in the cell would be to use a Change Cell Workflow, where when a new row is added the workflow puts that content into the cell (if [Taskname]$1 is a static value).

Cheers!

Hi @BdH

I hope you're well and safe!

To add to Genevieve's excellent advice/answer.
