Why do I get #Invalid Data Type error message because a cell is blank

HI,

I have a column that uses the formula =WORKDAY([HOP Submit F/C]@row, 5) to give a date by which approval needs to be given for documents that have been submitted.

The column [HOP Submit F/C] is a date column which itself uses a formula '=[????? Eqpt Order ACK]@row + 145' to get its own date (the question marks represent a company name).

My problem is that while the [HOP Submit F/C] column does not contain a date the workday formula returns the #Invalid Data Type error message. As soon as a date appears in the column whether as a result of its own formula or manually entered the workday formula correctly returns a date.

On the large sheet I am using lots of the [HOP Submit F/C] cells will be blank simply because we haven't reached certain points on a timeline. How do I stop this error message appearing .

Thanks

Steve

I'm not sure I understand the goal. If you want to see the days between two column, you will need to already have a date in each of those columns. This seems to contradict stopping the count once one of the columns is populated. Can you provide more detail, or maybe a screenshot/mockup of what you are looking for?

Hello - I am creating a number of fields in various sheets to calculate lead times. The Created (date) field is not the issue in this instance. The problem is the data in your Invoiced Date column is actually text strings instead of date values.

Try putting this into a date type column and using this new column in place of the Invoiced Date column in your original formula.

=DATE(VALUE(MID([Invoiced Date (EP)]@row, FIND(" ", [Invoiced Date (EP]@row) - 4, 4)), VALUE(LEFT([Invoiced Date (EP)]@row, FIND("/", [Invoiced Date (EP)]@row) - 1)), VALUE(MID([Invoiced Date (EP)]@row, FIND("/", [Invoiced Date (EP)]@row) + 1, FIND("/", [Invoiced Date (EP)]@row, FIND("/", [Invoiced Date (EP)]@row) + 1) - (FIND("/", [Invoiced Date (EP)]@row) + 1))))

Double check that you are putting it in a date type column. Can you also provide a screenshot of those same rows with the errors but also showing the Invoiced Date? It is working for me.
