Hi there,

I have a query that I'm hoping someone will be able to help with - when adding a new activity to a project plan how do I ensure that the variance is tracked without resetting the baselines for the whole project? I am finding that if I add a new activity its baseline start and finish are not automatically populated.

Any help would be appreciated.

You're correct, Baselines are set at the start of the project and won't include rows that are added at a later date, since they weren't there at the beginning. You would need tore-set your Baselinein order to include newly added tasks into the Baseline.

If you've already stared your project and have changed some of your Actual dates so that there's variance, you would want to change those dates back to the Original dates before you re-set the Baseline. Then you can use theCell History featureto find the actual date again and update the Project to your current dates.

I have a similar request: When adding a new task to a project plan, the baseline start and finish are not automatically populated. As a result, I must reset the baseline each time, and even though I can copy and adjust the current sheet's dates to match the baseline dates, this takes time because I need to keep track of numerous projects. Please let me know if there is a future plan to accommodate this request or if there is a better way to handle this.

Thank you for your feedback! There currently isn't a way for the baseline to auto-adjust as new rows or dates are added.
